Two Instructional eBooks
The video tutorial is accompanied by two eBooks to download and keep:
Festive Thinking - Star Up High is a step by step guide to creating a tall, self-supporting floral design on a simple wire structure, using the festive symbol of the star as the starting inspiration.
Festive Thinking - Shooting Star is a step by step guide to creating a versatile, freestanding bound composition - inspired by the festive symbol of the star.
Both eBooks include detailed information about the techniques used, and advice on placing the flowers and materials within the composition. Technical aspects of the construction are also documented through a comprehensive array of clear images.
You’ll receive the following immediately:
- a prerecorded video tutorial showcasing two different Christmas design concepts and four designs in total (available to stream now)
- Two eBooks - Festive Thinking: Shooting Star & Festive Thinking: Star Up High - showing you how to create your own interpretation of the designs featured in the video tutorial.
The demonstrated compositions are freestanding, bound or tied designs, with most fresh materials arranged directly into water.
They are variations on the idea of 'hand tied standing designs' or 'laying bouquets' and incorporate structural components and shallow containers or dishes.
This contemporary focus is a side step away from regular hand tied, spiral-stemmed bouquets.
Another eBook: Mark's Detailed Notes
Access to the recording of the analytical discussion will be accompanied by the release of detailed notes, outlining thoughts on possible design adaptations and alternate design decisions that would evolve the submitted designs. The notes will include images and sketches illustrating some of the suggested changes.
These notes will be a valuable addition to your floral design reference library.
Altogether, this package offers a wealth of learning opportunities that you can draw from and apply in your own floral practice:
- Access to the video tutorial
- Two How-To instructional eBooks
- Access to the recorded design discussion
- The eBook of my detailed analysis of the designs from the design discussion.
Some Frequently Asked Questions
What skills do I need to do this course?
Most of our programs are created for participants with some hands-on experience with flowers and a basic understanding of the elements and principles of design.
But not this one! This event is open to all skill levels and levels of experience.
Think of Festive Thinking as an event in three parts.
In the first part, Mark will present two design concepts and execute them to completion in a pre-recorded demonstration. This recording, along with the two accompanying eBooks, will be released on Monday 14th November at 6pm.
Next, ten invited guest designers will get to work creating their own interpretations of the one of the concepts presented by Mark.
Then, in Part Two, you join Mark as he goes through the guest designers' work, analysing them critically through the principles of design. You receive the same comprehensive analytical notes as the guest designers, making this a tremendous opportunity to learn from others' work.
Are there any prerequisites?
There are no prerequisites at all to participate in this course. This is a great way to get a sense of how our online courses operate, as you get to observe the feedback process that is central to how we operate, without the time investment associated with doing a full length course.
How much time do I need to commit?
It's anticipated that the first session, where Mark demonstrates the two Christmas design concepts, will run for about an hour. As it is prerecorded, you can watch it at your leisure any time after it is released on 14 November.
What sort of tools do I need?
You don't need any tools for this course.
What sort of materials will I need, and what would they potentially cost?
As this course is a tutorial and design analysis of ten guest designers' works, you don't need any materials.
What time zone are the online meetings run in?
Live course content is delivered on Sydney time - generally GMT + 11 hours. Sydney time can vary by one hour according to the time of year - standard or daylight saving time. Times are noted and confirmed in advance and referenced as:
