Learn More Using Less

An online program led by Mark Pampling - Four practical tasks and five online meetings

Design Discipline is an interactive online learning program for those who want to grow their floral skills by focusing on the design process.  The course concentrates on understanding and applying design knowledge.  It involves making 4 designs and then participating in live online discussions relating to the designs (or watching recorded discussions later).  Tasks are spaced out over a 10 to 12 week period and encourage a resourceful approach – using what's at hand where possible.

Material choices for each task are restricted to encourage a disciplined approach.  This method fosters growth and confidence – working with less in order to learn more about designing with plant materials.  Participants create and photograph their compositions.  The images are collated and shared in online meetings and are discussed with reference to various design principles.  These evaluations are structured to be supportive and constructive.  The goal is for all participants to finish with a sense of satisfaction and a feeling of increased design confidence.

Program

Online Introduction

6:00pm, Thursday, 7 July

Subsequent Online Discussions

6:00pm, 21 July, 11 August, 1 September and 22 September

Recordings of discussions are released approx. 48 hours after the live sessions.

Online meetings are conducted via Google Meet.  All supporting documents, images and notes are shared via email, or file transfer services where required (e.g. WeTransfer, Dropbox).

Participants provide their own materials and devices, technology and connections to join and/or watch the online discussions.

Tasks include an arrangement, a handheld bridal design, a wreath and an overlapping design.

The course is suitable for people with experience at intermediate levels and above.  Participants work at their own skill level with techniques they know and/or wish to explore.
