Learn More Using Less
An online program led by Mark Pampling
Design Discipline is an online program for those who want to grow their floral skills by focusing on the design process. The course concentrates on understanding and applying design knowledge. It involves making 4 designs and then participating in live online discussions about the designs (or watching recorded discussions later). Tasks are spaced out over a 10 to 12 week period and encourage a resourceful approach – using what's at hand where possible.
Material choices for each task are restricted to encourage a disciplined approach. This approach fosters growth and confidence – working with less in order to learn more. Participants create and photograph their designs. The images are collated and shared in online meetings and are discussed through the lens of various designs principles. These evaluations are structured to be supportive and constructive. The goal is for all participants to finish with a sense of satisfaction and a feeling of increased design confidence.
Online Introduction – 6:00pm, Thursday, 7 October
Subsequent online discussions – 6:00pm, 21 October, 4 & 18 November, and 2 December.
Recordings of discussions will be released approximately 24-48 hours after the live sessions.
Online meetings will be conducted via Google Meet. All supporting documents, images and notes will be shared via email.
Participants provide their own materials and devices, technology and connections to join and/or watch the online discussions.
Tasks include an arrangement, a handheld bridal design, a wreath and an overlapping design.
The course is suitable for people with experience at intermediate levels and above.
