Concept
Upward Direction
An arrangement in which the dominant thrust of the design's proportional mass is directed upward, carrying the expressive character of active lines at the whole-composition level.
“Upward direction carries the expressive character of active lines at the whole-composition level - it suggests aspiration and energy as a structural quality of the design.”
An upward-directed arrangement has its visual mass oriented toward the vertical - the dominant spatial thrust is ascending. This configuration carries the character of active lines at the level of the whole composition: it suggests aspiration, energy, and upward movement. Tall, vertical, and linearly structured arrangements typically carry upward proportional direction. Source: Lersch (300).
