Concept
Floral Line System
The axis of Lersch's taxonomy that identifies the governing geometric principle organising all lines across a composition - radial, parallel, diagonal, winding, overlapping, or free.
“The floral line system classifies the governing logic of a whole composition, not individual lines within it - a structural decision that carries stylistic implications.”
The floral line system axis classifies the governing structural logic that organises all lines across the whole composition - not individual lines within it. Six systems are identified: radial, parallel, diagonal, winding, overlapping, and free. The choice of line system is both a structural and a stylistic decision: radial systems characterise traditional work, while parallel, diagonal, winding, and overlapping systems are associated with modern and formal-linear design. This axis connects directly to the Line Systems concept under the Line element. Source: Lersch (300).
