Overlapping Floral Line System
The floral line system in which materials are layered in overlapping planes, creating spatial depth and visual complexity.
“The overlapping system creates perceived depth through layering - when materials overlap, the composition gains spatial dimension beyond its physical extent.”
The overlapping floral line system classifies arrangements in which materials are deliberately placed across different planes so that they overlap. The result is perceived spatial depth - the eye reads foreground and background - beyond the physical dimensions of the arrangement. This system prevents a design from reading as flat and is associated with contemporary and formal-linear work where silhouette relationships are carefully choreographed. Source: Lersch (300).
