Concept
Triadic Harmony
A colour scheme using three colours equally spaced around the colour wheel.
“One colour must clearly lead in a triadic scheme - without strong dominance the scheme risks feeling equally contested and chaotic.”
A triadic scheme divides the wheel into three equal segments - the three primaries, the three secondaries, or equivalent tertiary groupings. Triadic schemes are inherently balanced and offer rich colour variety. They require careful management of dominance: one colour must clearly lead or the scheme risks feeling equally contested and therefore chaotic. The primaries triad is among the most challenging to handle with sophistication.
