Concept
Flower Personality
The individual expressive character of a plant material, conveyed through its silhouette, growth habit, form, and line direction.
“Treating flower personalities responsibly carries an ethical dimension: the designer has an obligation to the material. This is the most distinctive concept in the entire taxonomy.”
Every material in a considered design has a personality expressed through its outline and body. Recognising flower personality means reading individual materials not for structural utility alone but for their intrinsic expressive character. In formal-linear design, treating flower personalities responsibly - identifying that character and placing each material where it is most fully expressed - is the highest design skill and carries an ethical dimension: the designer has an obligation to the material.
