What are the principles of floral design?

The seven principles of floral design are Balance, Rhythm, Proportion, Scale, Contrast, Dominance, and Harmony. They are the organisational laws that govern how the elements must be structured and related to one another. Balance deals with the distribution of visual and physical weight. Rhythm refers to the controlled visual movement that leads the eye through an arrangement effortlessly. Proportion deals with the relative amounts and volumetric areas within a design. Scale refers to the relative sizes of individual materials. Contrast involves the deliberate juxtaposition of differing elements to create visual interest. Dominance establishes a clear visual hierarchy by giving one type of element greater emphasis than all others. The principles do not operate independently - a decision made in the name of one principle always affects the others.
