Concept

Accentuating

A formation technique that creates emphasis by drawing focused attention to specific elements, materials, or areas within a design.

“Accentuating is the formation-level expression of the Dominance principle - where dominance is the law, accentuating is the technique.”

Accentuating is the formation-level expression of the Dominance principle: it creates a point or zone of concentrated visual emphasis by deliberate material selection and placement. Where dominance is the principle (the law), accentuating is the technique (the method). It connects directly to the focal area concept and to the question of how many competing centres of interest a design can sustain without losing coherence.
