Concept

Condensing

A formation technique that creates areas of concentrated, compressed material within a design, generating visual density and weight.

“Condensed areas carry high visual weight and operate in productive contrast with open released areas - one of the primary generators of spatial tension.”

Condensing creates compact areas - zones of increased material density that carry high visual weight. These concentrated areas operate in productive contrast with more open, released areas of the design. The relationship between compressed and released zones is one of the primary generators of spatial tension in formal-linear and contemporary work. Related to and complementary with the concept of Compression Zone.
