Actual Line
A line physically and visibly present in a design through a stem, branch, or other material.
“Actual lines must be identified before construction begins and resolved into a coherent directional logic before mass material is introduced.”
Actual lines are the primary structural tools of the designer - the willow branch sweeping upward, the tall stem establishing vertical axis, the trailing vine creating cascade. They must be identified before construction begins and resolved into a coherent directional logic before mass material is introduced. Material is positioned so as to create or emphasise the desired line in an arrangement.
