Cool Colours

Colours on the green-blue-violet side of the colour wheel, which visually recede away from the viewer.

“Cool colours recede automatically - before the viewer consciously processes the design. Their receding quality is valuable for creating spatial dimension.”

Cool colours - greens, blues, and violets - are spatially recessive. They appear to move away from the viewer, establishing distance and depth when placed in outer or background areas. This receding quality makes them valuable for creating spatial dimension and softening the dominance of warm colours. Their advancing/receding behaviour operates automatically - before the viewer consciously processes the design.
