Hue

Pure colour in its unmixed state, containing neither black nor white.

“Hue is the base identity of a colour - the starting point from which tints, tones, and shades are derived.”

Hue is the base identity of a colour - what we mean when we say red, blue, or yellow without qualification. It is the starting point from which tints, tones, and shades are derived. Hues are organised on the colour wheel into primary, secondary, and tertiary relationships. Understanding hue relationships is the foundation of all colour scheme work and the precondition for managing value and chroma with any precision.
