Peter Assman, author of Contemporary Floristry (Federal Association of German Florists, 1989), is the primary source authority for the foundational principles of German floral design theory.
“Peter Assman's Contemporary Floristry (1989) is the foundational text of German floral design theory - the primary source from which Lersch's evolved interpretations developed.”
Peter Assman's Contemporary Floristry, published by the Federal Association of German Florists in 1989, is the foundational text of German floral design theory. Assman established the formal-linear design principles, the vocabulary of active and passive line directions, the economy of material principle, and the formation systems that characterise the German tradition. What is known as German Theory precedes the teachings of Gregor Lersch, but there is considerable overlap between the two, and both were major contributors to the tradition. Source: Assman (400).
