Line flowers are structurally primary - they establish the design's skeleton before mass material is introduced. Examples include gladioli, delphinium, liatris, and flax: all tall, vertical, and linear in character. Their role is precisely what the Element of Line describes - leading the eye and establishing structural architecture. Line foliage serves the equivalent function in the foliage component of the design.
