Concept

Passive Line

A line, in the European tradition, whose character is one of rest, gathering, trailing, or cascading downward.

“Passive lines can trail downward before sweeping upward at their terminus - line character is not always uniform along its length.”

Passive lines do not strive - they settle, gather, trail, or cascade. They include grouped and collectively gathered lines, resting lines, cascading lines, and lines that trail downward before sweeping upward at their terminus - a nuance showing line character is not always uniform along its length. Passive lines bring calm and resolution. In the formal-linear tradition every line must be consciously identified as active or passive.
