Positive Space
The areas within a design occupied by material or mass.

Positive space is everything with physical substance in the composition - flowers, foliage, container, accessories. It is the dominant mode in traditional densely arranged work. Transitional and mass flowers are its primary instruments: they build and define the overall form and add mass to the design. Understanding positive space fully requires understanding it in contrast to negative space.
