Principles of Design

An organisational law governing how the elements must be structured and related to one another in pursuit of harmony.

“Principles do not operate independently - a decision made in the name of one principle always affects the others.”

The seven principles are Balance, Rhythm, Proportion, Scale, Contrast, Dominance, and Harmony. They are the method in the design recipe - the instructions for using the ingredients. Principles do not operate independently; a decision made in the name of one principle always affects the others. The principles do not describe what harmony is; they describe what must be done to achieve it.
