Focal Area
The zone of greatest visual emphasis within a design, toward which all other elements and the eye itself are directed.
“Focal area is preferred to focal point in floristry - emphasis is rarely a single mathematical point but a zone of concentrated interest.”
The focal area is the dominant zone of a composition - the point of highest visual weight where the most emphatic materials are placed. Large round forms, strong bold colours, and flat shiny textures are characteristic dominant elements. All other elements in the design should lead the eye toward it. Focal area is preferred to focal point in floristry because the emphasis is rarely a single mathematical point but a zone of concentrated interest.
