Focal Point

The specific location of maximum visual emphasis within a design, where the most dominant materials are concentrated and toward which all other elements direct the eye.

“The focal point is the apex of the design's hierarchy - where the most dominant material is placed, and toward which everything else in the design is ultimately directed.”

The focal point is the precise location of greatest visual emphasis - the apex of the design's hierarchy of dominance. It is the position where the most emphatic material is placed, and toward which all other elements - line flowers, secondary flowers, gradations of value and form - direct the viewer's attention. In traditional symmetrical design, focal flowers are distributed rhythmically along the main vertical line, strengthening the focal area. Focal point refers to the specific apex; focal area refers to the broader zone of emphasis around it. Source: Pampling (360).
