Welcome to our December {Flower Thoughts}. This month we continue the festive inspiration from Floral Fundamental, sharing the latest colour trend news and highlighting one of my popular eBooks.

Design of the Month

December's featured design is by Linda Taneja. It was created using only two material varieties - Bamboo (Bambusa) and Strawflowers (Xerochrysum bracteantha) to fulfil the brief of “an arrangement with a traditional influence”.

Adding significantly to the strong presence and impact of the composition is Linda’s chosen container - a Burmese offering bowl. Such vessels are usually filled with fruits and foods and taken to temples. Linda filled her bowl with parallel Bamboo stems and grouped the Strawflowers to build varying areas of interest. The innovative approach was one of multiple successful submissions from Linda in Flower Thinking’s Design Solutions program.

More Floral Fundamentals Festive Inspiration

Right in time for the festive season, here's more seasonal inspiration from Floral Fundamentals' most recent photoshoot in Holland.

I shared some designs in the last newsletter, but there was so much that I wanted to include more from Floral Fundamentals Ambassadors Ahti Lyra (Estonia), Chantal Post (Belgium) and Claudia Tararache (Romania). Each of these renowned designers created a range of festive themed designs using the superb flowers and materials supplied by Floral Fundamentals growers and partners.

eBooks for Learning and Inspiration

I was recently inspired by an item in my kitchen - bamboo steamer mats. Made from a botanical material and crafted into symmetrical forms with repeating patterns, they offer a time efficient way of adding interest into floral designs.

2025 Colour Trend

Global colour company, Pantone, have released their Colour of the Year for 2025

-- Mocha Mousse -- a gentle and warning brown hue with a feeling of richness.

Extending on the chosen colour, Pantone have also released colour palettes that contains and extend upon Mocha Mousse. Interestingly for floral designers, one of these palettes is called Floral Pathways and is described as “a cornucopia of suggestively scented floral tones”.

Mocha Mousse can be found in many of my favourite plant materials, so I won’t need to look too far for inspiration. My collection of dried ‘bits and pieces’ will be a good starting point, with its assortment of barks, leaves, pods and fibres.

Designs that I’ve created with predominantly dried materials containing hints of Pantone’s Mocha Mousse.
