Mark has spent three decades competing at the highest level, judging international events, and learning what separates entries that place from entries that don't.

In this free 45-minute talk, he shares the things he wishes he'd known earlier.

In this talk Mark shares how to read a schedule properly, to make design decisions under pressure, how the marking criteria actually works, and why the most experienced competitors are often doing something quite different from what newer entrants expect.

He'll draw on real examples from his own competition history, including honest accounts of what went wrong, and why.

You'll leave with a clearer picture of how competition thinking can improve your designing - both in competition and outside of it.

What we'll cover:

  • How to read a schedule - and what designers often miss when they do
  • How to balance interpretation and design style so neither is traded off against the other
  • How the marking criteria works, and how to use it to your advantage
  • How to prepare, practise, and stay composed when it matters
  • What judging teaches you about designing - for competition and beyond
