Colour Proportion
The relationship between the different amounts and areas of colours used in a design, mirroring the design principle of proportion within the colour dimension.
“Colour proportion is a question of how much, not just which - the area and amount of each colour in a design is as significant a decision as the choice of the colours themselves.”
Colour proportion refers to the different amounts and areas of colours used. It directly mirrors the design principle of proportion and must be coordinated with it. The decision of how much of each colour to include - not merely which colours to choose - is a primary design decision. The one-third strong to two-thirds weak guideline for chroma distribution is one practical expression of colour proportion in action. Colour proportion considers area, not just hue: a small intense patch of colour reads differently from a large pale wash of the same hue. Source: Pampling (130).
