Concept
Shade
A hue to which black has been added, producing a darker, lower-value version of the original colour.
“Shades are positioned toward the centre or focal area - misplaced shades at the periphery invert the composition's natural weight distribution.”
Shades carry low value - they absorb light, advance visually, and carry more visual weight than their parent hue. Deep burgundy is a shade of red; navy a shade of blue. In design, shades are positioned toward the centre or focal area of an arrangement, where their weight anchors the composition. Misplaced shades at the periphery create visual instability and invert the composition's natural weight distribution.
