Texture
The surface quality of all materials in a design - flowers, foliage, container, and accessories - which influences light reflection, perceived weight, and tactile association.
“Texture applies to ALL materials - flowers, foliage, container, and accessories. The container is as much a textural participant as the flowers.”
Texture applies to every element of a composition without exception: the container is as much a textural participant as the flowers. The most benefit is gained by contrasting textures. Texture is most usefully described in sensory terms - velvet-like, matt, rough, smooth - reflecting that it is experienced through multiple senses, not only sight. Texture modifies the perception of colour and must be coordinated with all other elements for harmonious effect.
