Concept

Implied Line

A visually suggested directional pathway that exists in the viewer's perception rather than in any physically continuous material.

“An implied line can be the dominant line in a floral arrangement - the most important structural element in a design may have no physical existence.”

An implied line is created when the eye visually links two or more physical points within a composition - connecting them dot-to-dot fashion. It may also connect two or more visually similar elements. Crucially, an implied line can be the dominant line in a floral arrangement - a claim of genuine significance, as it means the most important structural element in a design may have no physical existence.
