Welcome to the Floral Leaders Network

Australia has an amazing culture of floral artistry and design, and I think it would be even better if we had a forum where we can all come together and support each other in our shared passion for design.

So, I've started the Floral Leaders Network to offer an inclusive platform for leaders in the fields of floral art, design and floristry, and to offer ongoing opportunities for us to learn and grow together. The Floral Leaders Network is open to teachers, judges, demonstrators and presenters from the various worlds of floristry, floral design and floral art.

If you have a role teaching, presenting or judging floristry, floral art or floral design - or are growing into such a role - I want you to be a part of the Floral Leaders Network.

Our mission is to prioritise the understanding, valuing and effective application of design principles and the practice of floral craftsmanship - these are commonalities for all of us in the flower world if we are teaching, facilitating, judging, assessing or presenting.

To mark the inauguration of the Floral Leaders Network I am hosting a one day seminar with Gregor Lersch on current trends and directions in floral design education globally, and I welcome you to consider attending. More details on the seminar (and companion workshop) below:

  • Floral Leaders Seminar with Gregor Lersch

    Tuesday 13th August, Bankstown, Sydney

A one day seminar with a mix of demonstration, presentation and discussion. There will also be a Q & A session, with a unique opportunity to hear answers from one of the world’s foremost authorities on floral design.
An overview and update on the Design Schema - a highly useful system for understanding and applying the principles of design.
Gregor will also discuss and demonstrate his theory of grading, which extends the possibilities of the Design Schema.
Additional sessions will cover sustainability, displacements and the emergence of the ‘garden style’ trend and how it might be analysed for teaching or presenting.

  • Displacement, Distinction, Disruption Workshop with Gregor Lersch

Saturday 10th - Monday 12th August, Bankstown, Sydney

Advance your floral craftsmanship in three days of hands-on application of theory and techniques with Gregor Lersch, hosted by Mark Pampling and Flower Thinking.

We'll create Displacement-, Formal-linear- and Reductionist-inspired designs, exploring sustainability, asymmetry and minimalism, while extending our own personal design style.

Gregor will explain his thought processes as he creates items demonstrating each day's theme. We'll then create our own design in response and share the learnings as we learn from the master.
